Swim Meet 101

Tips for Swim Meets:

  • Swimmer and volunteer check-in procedure
    • Swimmers will enter the pool and come find the coaches, we will get the kids their number (written on their arm) then they will head to the Devereaux side and get ready for warm-ups.
    • Volunteers will find check in at the picnic tables under the shelter or with a Devil Rays board member for away meets.
  • What to bring (and what not to bring)
    • Bring goggles, towels (a couple), Sweatshirts if it is a cooler night, water, swim cap, snacks, and toys to play and share during meets.
    • Do not bring anything you don't want getting wet, we don't suggest bringing electronics.
  • Snack suggestions
    • Fruit
    • Crackers
    • Cheese Sticks
    • Goldfish
    • Cheez-Its
    • Money for concessions (there are a variety of options at swim meets)
  • Timeline
    • We start with set-up pretty early and need volunteers for this
    • We suggest coming early to get numbered and ready for warm-ups
    • Warm-ups
    • Swim meet begins
      • It goes by age and stroke
      • We have a medley relay before individual events start and a freestyle relay at the end
    • Clean-up
      • We really appreciate all the help we can get during this time so everyone can get home at a decent hour.
